Liverpool Solar Together Scheme
The Liverpool Solar Together Scheme has been a cornerstone initiative for us at GSL, showcasing our unwavering commitment to sustainability and renewable energy within our community. With a contract value of approximately £1.3 million, we embarked on this project to make solar power more accessible and affordable for local homeowners, completing 127 Solar PV installations.
Location: Liverpool
Contract Value: Circa £1.3 million
Services:
- 1326 Panels Installed
- 529.11 kW Solar PV Installed
- 671.3 kW Battery Storage Installed
Background
This project marked the second Solar Together initiative undertaken by GSL and was the closest to our head office. The Solar Together scheme is designed to make solar power more accessible and affordable by bringing together a group of homeowners to purchase solar panels at a discounted rate. This project was a significant milestone, showcasing our commitment to sustainability and renewable energy in our local community.
Challenges
Supply Issues with Solar Panels:
- Wattage Variability: We encountered issues with the availability of the specific wattage of solar panels initially planned for the installations. As a result, we had to provide some customers with higher wattage panels than originally specified. This required clear communication and careful management to guarantee customer satisfaction.
- Supplier Delays: Global supply chain disruptions effected the timely delivery of solar panels. We had to coordinate closely with our suppliers to manage these delays and adjust our installation schedules accordingly.
- DNO Notification Delays:
The industry experienced a high demand for solar installations, which led to delays in obtaining notifications from the Distribution Network Operator (DNO). This was a critical step in the installation process as it involved securing approval to connect the new solar systems to the grid.
To manage this, we implemented a proactive communication strategy to keep customers informed about the status of their installations and any anticipated delays. This transparency helped maintain customer trust and satisfaction during the process.
Results
Despite these challenges, the project was a resounding success:
- Installations: We successfully installed 127 Solar PV systems. These installations included packages with JA Solar Panels (all black for aesthetic integration), Growatt inverters, and battery storage solutions. The systems were tailored to meet varying energy needs with options for small (3.3kW), medium (6.5kW), and large (13kW) installations.
- Customer Benefits: All participating customers received reduced energy costs, contributing to their long-term financial savings and reduced carbon footprints. The installations also enhanced the value of their properties by incorporating sustainable energy solutions.
- Community Impact: By implementing this project, we significantly contributed to the local community’s transition to renewable energy, aligning with broader environmental goals and promoting sustainability.
This project not only highlighted our capability to manage large-scale solar installations but also reinforced our commitment to customer satisfaction and environmental stewardship. The lessons learned from managing supply chain issues and DNO notifications will inform our future projects, ensuring even smoother execution and enhanced customer experiences.
