Buckinghamshire Solar Together Scheme 2022
In July 2022, we marked a pivotal achievement by securing our inaugural Solar Together scheme contract for the “Buckinghamshire 2022” initiative. This collaborative project with Buckinghamshire Council and Solar Together aimed to provide residents with cost-effective access to solar PV systems through a group buying scheme. With a contract value of pproximately £2.7 million, the project sought to make renewable energy more accessible and affordable for the Buckinghamshire community.

Background
In July 2022, GSL achieved a significant milestone by winning our first Solar Together scheme, “Buckinghamshire 2022.”
This initiative was launched in collaboration with Buckinghamshire Council and Solar Together to offer residents of Buckinghamshire access to more affordable solar PV systems through a group buying scheme.
Our goal was to provide high-quality solar installations at reduced prices, making renewable energy more accessible and financially viable for the community.
Challenges
- Significant Supply Chain Challenges: In 2022, our company encountered substantial difficulties in procuring batteries essential for solar PV installations. These challenges stemmed from global shortages and logistical complexities, severely impacting our ability to secure timely deliveries from suppliers.
- Delays and Non-Deliveries: Despite placing bulk orders, we faced recurrent delays and instances where batteries did not arrive as scheduled. These disruptions were unforeseen and required immediate adaptation to minimise project delays and maintain customer satisfaction.
- Strategic Shift in Approach: Recognising the critical need to manage customer expectations and logistics effectively, we swiftly adjusted our strategy. This involved revising installation timelines and enhancing communication channels to keep customers informed about the revised schedules amidst supply chain uncertainties.
Result
Despite encountering these challenges, the project achieved remarkable success:
- Installed Systems: Completed installations in all 225 properties, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing operational costs.
- Financial Savings: Residents benefited from reduced electricity bills, demonstrating the cost-effectiveness of renewable energy solutions.
- Environmental Impact: Contributed to a significant decrease in CO2 emissions, aligning with sustainability goals and enhancing community resilience.
Conclusion
The Buckinghamshire 2022 Solar Together Scheme exemplifies our commitment to delivering sustainable energy solutions amidst operational challenges.
By overcoming supply chain hurdles and maintaining proactive customer communication, we successfully implemented solar PV and battery storage systems that not only reduce costs but also promote environmental stewardship.
This project stands as a testament to the effectiveness of collaborative initiatives in advancing community-wide sustainability and energy efficiency goals.
